Making Informed Decisions and Solving Problems

One of the most refreshing things is to settle any issues or make a decision that you know will positively impact those around you. Working with the LEAD office I luckily had positive experiences with my co-lead consultants and supervisors but with any job experience there will be adversity that you will have to overcome. When planning an event, you only hope that you have missed any details and that you have all of you important deadlines met. When you have to balance your work with your life this gets a little more difficult.

As a Lead consultant I somehow managed to work another job and 16 credits, and spiritually growing everyday. This is not something I necessarily applaud myself but I do feel a little bit insane for thinking that I would not get burnt out at all. I had to make an informed decision when I realized my academia was suffering admist trying to be financially able to provide some basic needs for myself. I had to cut out some things I enjoyed being a part of and change my working hours around so I had time to focus on the reason why I am here at Mason. It did not completely solve the problem because the problem was motivation. I had no motivation because I reached a road block of not knowing what I wanted to do after graduation.

I solved this problem by using the wonderful resources that Mason offers including career services, and even alumni. Career Services led me once again to hire mason, which helped me look for internships to apply to and alumni reminded me that having my life figured out now was not the priority today.

After a discussion with my advisor I felt encouraged and supported to change my major to something that I was passionate about. It was my advisor taking notice at my community engagement and telling me that he was proud of the leader I was gave me that extra push to feel confident in my abilities and capabilities to do great things now and in the future!
